The Asian wild buffalo is part of the Bubalus genus even the african buffalo has his own Genus.

This species is well domesticate in Asia and can weight more than 1 tonne. The coat is black with duller marks around nose and on the neck. Horns are large and ears are very big. Horn span are 100 - 120 cm. foot are adapted to swamp areas.

This buffalo lives in riverine and swamps area and inondated grasslands.

Herbivorous, this species eats a lot of grass bit also some fruits and seeds.

Polygamous, males have a harem. Reproduction happened at all time.

Gregarious and diurnal, they live in groups of about 10 individuals.

In captivity the wild form is very rare compare to the domestic form which is quite common.
