Tamaraw is a bovidae endemic from Mindoro Island where he lives in gassland, forest glades or bamboo jungle. They are from from sea level to at least 2 000 m high.

This bovid is a small buffalo with a grayish black coat. Pale markings on the fet locks and around eyes.

This species feeds on grass and sometimes on young leaves.

Only one calve is produced a year. Births are reported during rainy season betwwen june and novembre.

Adult males are solitarious, female lives in small group of 3 animals. Bigger group (10 - 11 individuals) have also been observed. During the day, the tamaraw graze in open areas.

In captivity, only one individual is keep in Gene Pool farm on Mindoro. The wild population count about 400 animals.

She is listed as CITES I.
