The hyacinth macaw is considered as the largest parrot of the world. He is cobalt blue, more violet on wings. Orbital ring and base of lower mandibule are yellow.

This parrot can be found at the edge of tropical forest and palm savannas form Brasil to Paraguay and east Bolivia.

Diet depend on small number of palm species. He feeds on the ground where he take palm seeds. Other fruits are also taken and even snails.

Reproduction happened between july and decembre. Nest in hole in tree.

This gregarious species have seasonnak displacements , flying on large distances.

In captivity, this species is very common in zoos (About 100 in Europe) and by private breeders.

This endangered species is classified in CITES I
