The blue throated parakeet also know as ochre marked parakeet is quite big for the Pyrrhura genus. Crown and nape are blackish. Lores to ear-covers are yellow to red, throat is blue. Primary are blue, back is red and the rest of the body is green.

This species lives in primary humid forest and sometimes in plantations of east Brasil.

The blue throated parakeet feeds on seeds and on fruit picked in the canopy.

Reproduction happened between septembre and decembre. The nest is build in a tree hole 10 meters up

In captivity, this species is quite common and is keep in more than 20 zoos in Europe. She is also common by private breeders. Classified in annex I of the CITES.
