Marron bellied parakeet is generally green, from head to the back and wings. Ear coverts reddish brown. Brest is yellowish green. Frontal band rufous. Primaries are blue and tail olive green with marron by the "P. f. frontalis" sub species.

This species follows auracaria forests, but also lives in mountain humid forests.

This parakeet feeds on araucarias nuts, on palm nuts, maïs cultivates orange and some fruits.

Reproduction happened between octobre and decembre. Female nests in the hole of a tree at 3 meter from ground.

In captivity, this species listed in CITES II is quit common in zoos (more than 20 in Europe) and by private breeders.
