Rose fronted parakeet has a red hed contrasting with the rest of the body. Ear covers are whitish yellow. Eye ring is grey. Breast is grey. Underbreast is olive green with a red flock. Wings are greens, and primaries are blue. This species was formely considered as a sub species of painted parakeet (Pyrrhura picta).

This species lives in humid lowland forest and in seasonnaly flooded forest, but also in savannah forests. She is livong on the border between Peru and Brasil.

This parakeet feeds on different fruits and some seeds.

Reproduction happened between june and septembre. Femelle nests in a tree hole.

This species listed in CITES II. This parakeet israre by private breeders and only 7 zoos show it to the public.
